Limited Slip Differentials: Helical (Torsen) vs Clutch-type (1.5-way) for FWD track setup.

Upgrading the differential on my track-only Integra. Currently running an OEM Torsen helical LSD. On tight corner exits, if I drop a wheel on the curb or lift the inside tire, the Torsen behaves like an open diff and spins the inside tire. Will a Cusco 1.5-way clutch-type LSD solve this, and what maintenance headache am I signing up for?

Torsen differentials require torque on both wheels to multiply. If one wheel has zero traction (airborne), the multiplication factor is 0, so it spins like an open diff. A clutch-type LSD will keep locking regardless of wheel contact.

Be prepared for the steering wheel feedback. A clutch-type LSD on a FWD car pulls HARD under power. It takes some muscle to hold the line compared to the smooth helical Torsen.

Maintenance is definitely higher. You'll need to change da differential oil every 3-5 track days with specific high-friction LSD oil, otherwise the clutches will chatter and wear out fast.

Go with the Cusco 1.5-way. The clutch packs are preloaded with springs, so even if a tire is completely off the ground, it will still transfer power to the outside wheel. It changes the car's corner exit speed completely.
