Brake Dynamics: Pad Compound friction coefficient curves. Hawk DTC-60 vs Pagid RS29.

Need advice for endurance racing. Currently running Hawk DTC-60 pads on my Porsche Cayman. They have great initial bite, but the torque curve is very aggressive and causes early ABS activation. Looking at Pagid RS29. How does the thermal friction profile compare? I need something progressive that doesn't drop off after 30 minutes of heavy braking.

Exactly. DTC-60 bites hard immediately, which is great for sprint races but makes modulating the pedal near the ABS threshold very difficult. The Pagid RS29 is much more linear and progressive.

pagid rs29 is the gold standard for endurance. its coefficient of friction (mu) is around 0.45 and stays completely flat from 200c up to 700c. hawk dtc-60 is way more aggressive (mu ~ 0.55) and peaky. 😮‍💨

Also look at PFC 11 compound. It has a bit more bite than Pagid RS29 but still keeps a very flat torque curve throughout the heat cycle. 🔧👀📈

Keep in mind RS29 requires proper bedding-in. If you don't transfer a clean layer of pad material to the rotor, they will squeal like crazy and wear out prematurely.

I switched from DTC-60 to RS29 on my track car. Brake wear life doubled, and rotor life tripled. The initial bite is softer, but you can modulate the pedal so much better without triggering ABS
